If you build it, will they come? Niagara Region is hoping that’s the case with its new web portal – niagaraimmigration.ca. The website, created with funding and support from the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, is designed to attract thousands of new immigrants to choose Niagara as their new home.
To promote the portal to an international audience, Pier 8 Group was hired to develop the website brand and raise awareness about this new online resource among recent immigrants and their friends, family and
colleagues "back home". Posters, postcards, and promotional key tags were created for distribution through local multicultural centres. Email blasts to immigrant networks publicized the portal launch, while a media event generated awareness across the region. Pier 8 Group also created a Niagara Immigrants facebook group to provide a forum where immigrants and people thinking about immigrating to Canada can make contact with one another to discuss issues relating to settlement and job opportunities, and exchange information about amenities and cultural events in the region.
