Smart Gardening – The Natural Way for Niagara

The seasonal ritual of mowing, raking, pruning and watering may be an enjoyable leisure activity for many home owners, but for municipal service providers it can be a real headache. Tons of leaf and yard waste to be composted, increased load on municipal water services, and risks to public health from pesticide use – these are just some of the issues that Niagara Region, and many other municipalities, must deal with on a daily basis.

To help Niagara residents make the switch to more eco-friendly gardening practices, Pier 8 Group developed a “Smart Gardening” campaign and designed brochures, displays and a website to promote water conservation, alternatives to pesticides, composting, grasscycling and green cart use.
